Help! (Lennon/McCartney)--John wrote this song, literally crying out for help, during his self-proclaimed "Fat Elvis" period. On the single's first pressing, the label says: "From the United Artists screenplay, Eight Arms to Hold You (the original title for Help!).

Help, I need somebody,
Help, not just anybody,
Help, you know I need someone, help.

When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now those days are gone, and I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round.
Help me get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me.

And now my life has changed in oh so many ways,
My independence seems to vanish in the haze.
But every now and then I feel so insecure,
I know that I just need you like I've never done before.

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round.
Help me get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me.

When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now those days are gone, and I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down
And I do appreciate you being 'round.
Help me get my feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please help me, help me, help me, ooh.

The Night Before (Lennon/McCartney)--The Beatles were filmed performing/recording this song on the Salisbury Plains.

We said our goodbyes, ah, the night before.
Love was in your eyes, ah, the night before.
Now today I find you have changed your mind.
Treat me like you did the night before.

Were you telling lies, ah, the night before?
Was I so unwise, ah, the night before?
When I held you near, you were so sincere.
Treat me like you did the night before.

Last night is the night I will remember you by.
When I think of things we did, it makes me wanna cry.

We said our goodbyes, ah, the night before.
Love was in your eyes, ah, the night before.
Now today I find you have changed your mind.
Treat me like you did the night before.

When I held you near, you were so sincere.
Treat me like you did the night before.

Last night is the night I will remember you by.
When I think of things we did, it makes me wanna cry.

Were you telling lies, ah, the night before?
Was I so unwise, ah, the night before?
When I held you near, you were so sincere.
Treat me like you did the night before,
Like the night before.

You've Got To Hide Your Love Away (Lennon/McCartney)--One of a couple notable occurences where a mixed-up line made the song that much better. In the first verse, the line was written, "feeling two foot tall." However, due to a Freudian slip, divine intervention, or just a simple screw-up, John sang "feeling two foot small" instead in an early performance for Paul. He liked it, and so it stayed that way.

Here I stand, head in hand
Turn my face to the wall
If she's gone I can't go on
Feelin' two-foot small.

Everywhere people stare
Each and every day
I can see them laugh at me
And I hear them say

Hey, you've got to hide your love away.
Hey, you've got to hide your love away.

How can I even try?
I can never win.
Hearing them, seeing them
In the state I'm in.

How could she say to me,
Love will find a way?
Gather 'round, all you clowns
Let me hear you say

Hey, you've got to hide your love away.
Hey, you've got to hide your love away.

I Need You (Harrison)--One of many songs George wrote for his then-wife Patti.

You don't realize how much I need you.
Love you all the time and never leave you.
Please come on back to me, I'm lonely as can be.
I need you.

Said you had a thing or two to tell me.
How was I to know you would upset me?
I didn't realize as I looked in your eyes, you told me.

Oh yes, you told me you don't want my loving anymore.
That's when it hurt me
And feeling like this,
I just can't go on anymore.

Please remember how I feel about you.
I could never really live without you.
So, come on back and see just what you mean to me.
I need you.

But when you told me you don't want my loving anymore,
That's when it hurt me
And feeling like this,
I just can't go on anymore.

Please remember how I feel about you,
I could never really live without you.
So, come on back and see just what you mean to me.
I need you
I need you
I need you

Another Girl (Lennon/McCartney)--Oh, to be the human bass that Paul's playing in the movie during this song!

For I have got another girl, another girl.
You're making me say that I've got nobody but you,
But as from today, well, I've got somebody that's new.
I ain't no fool and I don't take what I don't want.

For I have got another girl, another girl.
She's sweeter than all the girls and I've met quite a few.
Nobody in all the world can do what she can do.
And so I'm telling you, this time you'd better stop.

For I have got another girl, another girl
Who will love me till the end.
Through thick and thin
She will always be my friend.

I don't want to say that I've been unhappy with you,
But as from today, well, I've seen somebody that's new.
I ain't no fool and I don't take what I don't want.

For I have got another girl, another girl
Who will love me till the end.
Through thick and thin
She will always be my friend.

I don't want to say that I've been unhappy with you,
But as from today, well, I've seen somebody that's new.
I ain't no fool and I don't take what I don't want.

For I have got another girl, another girl, another girl.

You're Going To Lose That Girl (Lennon/McCartney)--I couldn't find anything juicy on this one, but I will say that I always think of an acquaintance from high school when I hear this one. Lia Mendoza and I would sing this in Algebra class--a LOT. Lia, wherever you are, hope all is well!

You're gonna lose that girl (yes yes you're gonna lose that girl).
You're gonna lose that girl (yes yes you're gonna lose that girl).

If you don't take her out tonight
She's gonna change her mind (she's gonna change her mind).
And I will take her out tonight,
And I will treat her kind (I'm gonna treat her kind).

You're gonna lose that girl (yes yes you're gonna lose that girl).
You're gonna lose that girl (yes yes you're gonna lose that girl).

If you don't treat her right, my friend,
You're gonna find her gone (You're gonna find her gone).
'Cause I will treat her right, and then
You'll be the lonely one (You're not the only one).

You're gonna lose that girl (yes yes you're gonna lose that girl).
You're gonna lose that girl (yes yes you're gonna lose that girl).
You're going to lose (yes yes you're gonna lose that girl).

I'll make a point
Of taking her away from you (watch what you do) yeah.
The way you treat her, what else can I do?

You're going to lose that girl.
You're going to lose that girl.

If you don't take her out tonight,
She's gonna change her mind (She's gonna change her mind).
And I will take her out tonight,
And I will treat her kind (I'm gonna treat her kind)

You're gonna lose that girl (yes yes you're gonna lose that girl).
You're gonna lose that girl (yes yes you're gonna lose that girl).
You're gonna lose that girl (yes yes you're gonna lose that girl).

Ticket To Ride (Lennon/McCartney)--John called this "one of the earliest heavy-metal records made."

I think I'm gonna be sad,
I think it's today, yeah.
The girl that's driving me mad
Is going away.

She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
But she don't care.

She said that living with me
Is bringing her down, yeah.
She would never be free
When I was around.

She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
But she don't care.

I don't know why she's riding so high,
She ought to think twice,
She ought to do right by me.
Before she gets to saying goodbye,
She ought to think twice,
She ought to do right by me.

I think I'm gonna be sad,
I think it's today, yeah.
The girl that's driving me mad
Is going away, yeah.

She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
But she don't care.

I don't know why she's riding so high,
She ought to think twice,
She ought to do right by me.
Before she gets to saying goodbye,
She ought to think twice,
She ought to do right by me.

She said that living with me,
Is bringing her down, yeah.
She would never be free
When I was around.

Oh, she's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
She's got a ticket to ride,
But she don't care.

My baby don't care, my baby don't care
My baby don't care, my baby don't care
My baby don't care.

Act Naturally (Russell/Morrison)--Released as the B-side to the US "Yesterday" single.

They're gonna put me in the movies,
They're gonna make a big star out of me.
We'll make a film about a man that's sad and lonely,
And all I gotta do is act naturally.

Well, I'll bet you I'm gonna be a big star.
Might win an Oscar, you can never tell.
The movie's gonna make me a big star
'Cause I can play the part so well.

Well, I hope you'll come and see me in the movies.
Then I'll know that you will plainly see
The biggest fool that ever hit the big time.
And all I gotta do is act naturally.

We'll make the scene about a man that's sad and lonely
And beggin' down upon his bended knee.
I'll play the part, but I won't need rehearsing.
All I gotta do is act naturally.

Well, I'll bet you I'm gonna be a big star.
Might win an Oscar, you can never tell.
The movie's gonna make me a big star
'Cause I can play the part so well

Well, I hope you'll come and see me in the movies,
Then I'll know that you will plainly see
The biggest fool that ever hit the big time.
And all I gotta do is act naturally.

It's Only Love (Lennon/McCartney)--The original title was "That's a Nice Hat (Cap)", and when George Martin's orchestra recorded this song, that was the title they used.

I get high when I see you go by, my oh my.
When you sigh, my, my inside just flies, butterflies.
Why am I so shy when I'm beside you?

It's only love and that is all,
Why should I feel the way I do?
It's only love, and that is all,
But it's so hard loving you.

Is it right that you and I should fight every night?
Just the sight of you makes nighttime bright, very bright.
Haven't I the right to make it up girl?

It's only love and that is all,
Why should I feel the way I do?
It's only love, and that is all,
But it's so hard loving you
Yes it's so hard loving you, loving you.

You Like Me Too Much (Harrison)--George Martin and Paul played the same piano on the recording of this song.

Though you've gone away this morning,
You'll be back again tonight
Telling me there'll be no next time
If I just don't treat you right.

You'll never leave me and you know it's true,
'Cause you like me too much and I like you.

You've tried before to leave me,
But you haven't got the nerve
To walk out and make me lonely,
Which is all that I deserve.

You'll never leave me and you know it's true,
'Cause you like me too much and I like you.
I really do, and it's nice when you believe me,
If you leave me,

I will follow you
And bring you back where you belong.
'Cause I couldn't really stand it,
I admit that I was wrong.

I wouldn't let you leave me 'cause it's true,
'Cause you like me too much and I like you.

'Cause you like me too much and I like you.
I really do, and it's nice when you believe me,
If you leave me

I will follow you
And bring you back where you belong
'Cause I couldn't really stand it,
I admit that I was wrong.

I wouldn't let you leave me 'cause it's true,
'Cause you like me too much and I like you.
'Cause you like me too much and I like you.

Tell Me What You See (Lennon/McCartney)--John played a washboard guitar on this recording.

If you let me take your heart, I will prove to you,
We will never be apart if I'm part of you.
Open up your eyes now, tell me what you see.
It is no surprise now, what you see is me.

Big and black the clouds may be, time will pass away.
If you put your trust in me, I'll make bright your day.
Look into these eyes now, tell me what you see.
Don't you realize now, what you see is me.

Tell me what you see.

Listen to me one more time, how can I get through?
Can't you try to see that I'm trying to get to you?
Open up your eyes now, tell me what you see.
It is no surprise now, what you see is me.

Tell me what you see.

Listen to me one more time, how can I get through?
Can't you try to see that I'm trying to get to you?
Open up your eyes now, tell me what you see.
It is no surprise now, what you see is me.

I've Just Seen A Face (Lennon/McCartney)--Paul's Aunt Gin liked this song, so it's working title was "Auntie Gin's Theme". Keeping with the "It's Only Love" direction, George Martin's orchestra recorded this under it's working title.

I've just seen a face,
I can't forget the time or place
Where we just met.
She's just the girl for me
And I want all the world to see
We've met, mmm-mmm-mmm-m'mmm-mmm.

Had it been another day,
I might have looked the other way
And I'd have never been aware.
But as it is I'll dream of her
Tonight, di-di-di-di'n'di.

Falling, yes I am falling,
And she keeps calling
Me back again.

I have never known
The like of this. I've been alone
And I have missed things
And kept out of sight,
But other girls were never quite
Like this, da-da-n'da-da'n'da.

Falling, yes I am falling,
And she keeps calling
Me back again.

Falling, yes I am falling,
And she keeps calling
Me back again.

I've just seen a face,
I can't forget the time or place
Where we just met.
She's just the girl for me
And I want all the world to see
We've met, mmm-mmm-mmm-da-da-da.

Falling, yes I am falling,
And she keeps calling
Me back again.

Falling, yes I am falling,
And she keeps calling
Me back again.

Oh, falling, yes I am falling,
And she keeps calling
Me back again.

Yesterday (Lennon/McCartney)--Oh, what can I say about this song that you don't already know?! How about that it was never released as a single in the UK? Or that he recorded this song a couple hours after recording the crowd-pleasing, rip-roaring "I'm Down"?

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away.
Now it looks as though they're here to stay.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be,
There's a shadow hanging over me.
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Why she had to go, I don't know, she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Why she had to go, I don't know, she wouldn't say.
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday.

Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play.
Now I need a place to hide away.
Oh, I believe in yesterday.
Mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm.

Dizzy Miss Lizzie (Williams)--This recording appeared in the States on the Beatles VI album about two months before the Brits heard it. It also wasn't the first time the Beatles recorded this song--they tried it out in 1962, but that version still hasn't been released.

You make me dizzy, Miss Lizzie,
The way you rock'n'roll.
You make me dizzy, Miss Lizzie,
When we do the stroll.
Come on, Miss Lizzie,
Love me 'fore I grow too old.

Come on, give me fever,
Put your little hand in mine.
You make me dizzy, Miss Lizzie,
Girl, you look so fine.
You're just a-rockin' and a-rollin',
I sure do wish you were mine.

You make me dizzy, Miss Lizzie,
When you call my name.
O-o-o-o-oh baby,
Say, you're driving me insane.
Come on, come on, come on, baby,
I want to be your lover man.

Run and tell your mama
I want you to be my bride.
Run and tell your brother,
Baby, don't run and hide.
You make me dizzy, Miss Lizzie,
Girl, I want to marry you.

Come on, give me fever,
Put your little hand in mine.
You make me dizzy, Miss Lizzie,
Girl, you look so fine.
You're just a-rockin' and a-rollin',
I sure do wish you were mine.
